As I travel into the Retirement Years

August 30: Seidel Concrete contractor, Randy Seidel, (605) 431-5388 arrives for footing preparation and squaring the building footprint.

September 14: Forms for the footings are created

September 17th: Concrete trucks arrive to pour the footings

September 21st: Forms are created for the basement walls

September 25: Rebar almost completed

September 29th: Concrete poured for basement walls

September 30th: Hauled in 150 tons of dirt for backfill of foundation walls

Forms are removed from the walls

October 4th: Waterproof the concrete walls

October 6th: For the past week I’ve hauled in 250 tons of fill dirt to level off the garage floor and backfill the exterior walls

October 7th: Used a large portion of the fill dirt to fill in the garage floor, tamped it down and added 3 inches of gravel to level it for floor drains

Began backfill of east wall

Drain pipe for foundation will be covered with 5” of 1-2” gravel then back filled with fill dirt and tamped. 24, 2” foam boards to insulate the concrete walls are rsting on the trailer

October 8th: Ran out of fill dirt for backfilling the foundation

Ran a foundation drain around the perimeter (black hose)

Finish adding gravel to the basement floor, tamp and level it out

October 12th: Hauled in more dirt, brought front of house to grade

More fill needed along the south side

October 15th: Looking good across the garage door bays, floors set to grade for concrete

Two floor drains are set in the garage floor

Expansion joints are place around the perimeter - this will be the utility room for electric, well and hot water heater

October 18th: First concrete pour for the garage floor

October 19th: Second pour

October 20th: Third pour, slab completed

October 21st: Apron set up

October 22nd: Last pour
